Roads from recycled materials: Innovative technology has arrived in Serbia

Did you know that 1,6 million tons of CO2 per year is released in the atmosphere only by producing asphalt? In the world, many roads have been built using waste materials, such as plastic, slag and ash from power plants. These “plastic” roads could be a great innovative solution for large amounts of waste, but also to reduce the pollution and the use of oil in Serbia.

This is just one example of the construction of alternative roads which are being used in the Czech Republic, Poland, Germany. In the United States and China the material has been used since the early 20th century. In Serbia all material for recycling, except from the organic origin that rapidly disintegrates, could be used as a mass for the construction or rehabilitation of roads.

In addition to solving the problem of large amounts of plastic waste, this material is inexpensive, resistant and durable. Also, the plastic roads are lighter, reducing the load on the ground, and hollow, making it easier to install cables and utility pipelines below the surface. These characteristics show clearly the reason for its increasing use in infrastructure works.

The innovative technology used to produce this material has arrived in Serbia, we already have more than enough of waste material, now we just wait to start applying it!
