Simple Innovation Leads Towards Lower Electricity Bill

Hot Californian sun is shining down on hard working scientists at Stanford University. They are testing new technology developed at the University itself. You might ask, what is this new technology? There was this famous scene from the Matrix movie, when one of the lead characters Morpheus reveals the secret of Matrix, and during that scene says the famous quote: “What if I told you…”.

Well, we have another:

It might look like a joke, but not to Professor Michael McGehee. In cooperation with his students from material science and engineering department at Stanford University, a new, efficient and much cheaper way of tinting the windows was discovered. Although technology that tints the windows without the shutters already exists, in its current form, it is very expensive. Current technology is based on electrochromic glass which makes the final product out of reach for the most customers.

Innovation implemented by Professor Michael uses a polymer solution into the glass, thus making it cheaper and affordable. Currently, it is reserved for a small scale glass, because the technology is in testing phase. Much wider use is expected later on. Unlike electrochromic glass, polymer technology allows partial tinting, filtering out only some light. You will have a feeling that you are wearing glasses, and not actually sitting in the room.

Polymer tinted windows

According to Professor Michael: “You can block 90 percent of the light to reduce the glare, but you can see what’s out there.”

It should be noted that polymers can also be used on metal, which means that windows themselves will last much longer.

Finally we are ready to reveal to you a “Morpheus moment”. Stanford University research showed that electricity bill can be reduced by 20% just be regulating the light intake of the room! Now you can enjoy nice ambient without financial constraints of a huge electricity bill.

Benefits regarding this innovation are not purely related to the ambient. Financial sustainability is more than assured, with the likes of airplane, auto, and construction industry all interested in using this innovation for their needs.
You just need to watch out not to fall asleep during the tilt phase!
