Serbian scientists are developing an advanced technology for the production of biofuel from algae

Researchers from the Institute for Multidisciplinary Research of University of Belgrade in cooperation with the University of Manchester and Baylor University from Texas are developing advanced technology that will enable the commercial production of biofuels from the microalgae.

From an innovative idea to a revolutionary discovery

Serbian scientists have begun a pioneering experiment that would, if successful, reduce the price of biofuels by a fifth. Serbia is currently able to produce biofuel exclusively from crops such as corn and wheat, the production of biofuels from the microalgae will contribute to the significant development of green technology in the energy sector, both in Serbia and the rest of the world.

This project will last for three years and it is worth 400,000 euros. The project is funded by the NATO through the Science for Peace and Security Program, and it provides equipment, supplies, and scholarships for the most talented young researchers.
